Dr. John McDougall
Dr. John McDougall is one of the pioneers of whole food plant-based nutrition. After his medical internship in the early 1970’s, Dr. McDougall served as one of four medical doctors at a major sugar plantation in Hawaii. Over the next three years, he observed that his elderly patients who had immigrated from China, Japan, Korea and the Philippines, where rice and vegetables were the major part of their diet, remained trim, active and medication-free into their 90’s. Their children, tempted by Western foods, were a little fatter and sicker, and their grandchildren, ended up with all the chronic diseases that plagued Americans – diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, cancers. Dr. McDougall discovered that many researchers before him had found the same relationship between diet and chronic disease. He dedicated the next 40+ years helping people regain their lost health by moving to a whole food plant-based lifestyle.
